Blue poppy seeds have a sweet, nutty flavor and are primarily used as a topping on bread or ground into pastries. However, they can also be used as a seasoning or as a thickener for sauces.
Blue poppy (Papaver soniferum) is the informal name for the dried seed of the opium poppy, which belongs to the poppy family (Papaveraceae) and grows throughout Europe.
Blue poppy seeds are attributed with several health-promoting properties:
