Juniper berries
Juniper berries have a resinous scent and a bittersweet taste. They have a pleasant aroma that is gradually released in dishes in which they are cooked. Think of marinades and stews. Crush or grind the juniper berries just before use to enhance the flavor.
The juniper (Juniperus communis) is a plant belonging to the cypress family (Cupressaceae) and can be found almost everywhere in the northern hemisphere with runners deep into the subtropical regions. Large populations occur in the coniferous forests of Asia and Canada.
Juniper berries are attributed with various health-promoting properties:

Store in a cool, dry place, shelf life is maximum 24 months.
